Hosts St George’s have the strongest team this season and they deserve to have more players to represent the country at the Craven Week in South Africa early next month.
St George’s have six players in the Under-19 squad for the Craven Week festival and their fine run proves that coach Brendon Brider’s coaching skills might earn his team the top place in the school’s rugby fixture.
While St George’s were celebrating their unbeaten run, it was a sad moment for Prince Edward who started the season on a high note until they suffered their first defeat this term, going down 42-18 to the hands Saints last week. At the weekend, Prince Edward went down 10-7 to St John’s.
In the first half, Prince Edward were leading 5-0 before St John’s hit back and touched down to make it 5-5. Just when everyone thought the Tigers were getting back on the right tune and got two points making it 7-5, the game became tough as their opponents were more defensive.
But it was St John’s who won in the end, beating the Tigers 10-7 in a competitive encounter.
St John’s coach Gary Hewitt said his team played “75 per cent good” and they did not finish well.
“It was a very tough encounter, the boys played 75 percent not too well but am happy that their defending was good. It is not easy to get a win against Prince Edward,”said Hewitt.
Thomas Chadwick and Tadiwa Parirenyatwa scored the two tries for St John’s and earned them the victory.
In another fixture, Churchill defeated host Falcon College 20-10.
The Bulldogs’ coach Happymore Mutezo said their match was so exciting as his boys were in full control of the encounter.
“I am very proud of my boys, they played well and they controlled the game well and beat the hosts. Last week they had a huge score and I trust that they will do well again in our next game,” said Mutezo.
Churchill hammered Christian Brothers College 47-12 last weekend.
