ST Joseph Primary School were crowned the inaugural Chirozvani Family UK Soccer Tournament champions after they edged Neutonga 1-0 in the final held at Charandura Growth Point in Chirumhanzu on Sunday.

The school, which was attended by three brothers Leonard, Timothy “Musoja” and Lewis Chirozvani who bankrolled this tournament, did themselves a favour by beating Chapwanya 1-0 in the semi-finals to book a place in the final against Neutonga who saw off Govere 3-0 in the other semi-final match.

For their efforts, St Joseph were rewarded with a floating trophy, medals and some football jerseys.

The Chirovazvani Family UK soccer tournament was attended by Chirumhanzu Member of Parliament Barbra Rwodzi who is also the Deputy Minister of Tourism.

Rwodzi said she was happy with the way the tournament was organised and urged people to always remember where they came from.

“I am very happy to have attended the tournament and I hope more people will give back to their communities. “What we have witnessed here is a good example of people who will not forget where they came from.

“Many kids managed to get an opportunity to interact . . . The kids were enjoying every moment and we hope it becomes an annual event,” said Rwodzi.

The Chirozvani brothers, who are all former football players and are now resident in the United Kingdom, said St Joseph Primary School will also host the next event of this tournament which they would like to make an annual competition.

The tournament is the brainchild of the Chirozvani brothers in conjunction with Kit Aid UK and partnered with Leorose, PJ Scouting Agency London as well as AFC Wimbledon.
