THE stage is now set for the highly-anticipated Harare Classic bodybuilding competition, scheduled for the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale on October 25.
With a prize purse of $3 000 up for grabs, top bodybuilders from across the country and the continent are gearing up to battle it out in six categories.
Tournament organiser Tarisai Chirume revealed that preparations are well underway, with nearly three quarters of the groundwork already covered.
“The overall prize has increased to $3 000, thanks to our sponsor Musabvunda Apparel.
“We expect a high turnout of athletes and fans and we are confident that this year’s event will surpass the previous one in terms of quality and competition,’’ Chirume said.
Chirume encouraged upcoming athletes to challenge the veterans.
“We have been visiting gyms around the country and we’re impressed with the quality of athletes preparing to compete.
“It’s going to be an exciting tournament, with the best athletes sharing the stage.”
The competition categories include Senior Men’s Bodybuilding, Men’s Physique, Men’s Fitness, Women’s Bikini, Women’s Wellness and Junior Men Bodybuilding.
Last year’s winners, including Gideon Teguru, Tasha Ndendere, Linnette Tom, Quinton Phiri and Justin Mututumutsa, look to be tested by new entrants.
On the back of support from a number of corporate partners and individuals, including Musabvunda Apparel, Polyrite Plastic Pack and Green Golden Leaf Tobacco, the Harare Classic organisers are aiming to have the contest evolve into a premier bodybuilding event in the region.
