THE stage is set for the annual Two Countries Marathon to be held on Saturday between Musina and Beitbridge, with organisers announcing a change of route for this year’s edition.

In previous years, the race would start in Beitbridge and end in Musina. This time, it will start in Musina and end in Beitbridge.

The marathon is jointly organised by Beitbridge Municipality and Musina Municipality in partnership with other stakeholders as part of their twinning agreement.

The race is held under the theme “Two Nations, One Race, One Vision.” It is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, promoting sport tourism and fostering community integration between the two border towns.

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba is expected to officiate at the South African side in Musina, while Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Albert Nguluvhe, will officiate on the Zimbabwean side at Dulivhadzimu Stadium in Beitbridge.

The event features four categories — 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km. Beitbridge Municipality spokesperson, Raniel Ndou, said preparations were progressing well.

“We are progressing well. We are having a number of athletes willing to register today. Race packs are in place and will be collected today,” said Ndou.

He said 282 athletes have so far registered across all race categories. According to the organisers, registration and race pack collection are being held on Friday at Beitbridge Municipality offices and Musina KwikSpar.

On race day, Saturday October 3, registration and collection for all distances will be held at Eric Louw High School in Musina from 4 am to 4:45 am, while for the 5km and 10km categories only, collection will also be available at Dulivhadzimu Stadium from 5:00 am to 6:30 am.
