Stalemate against Tigers keeps Rovers on top

Ricky Zililo, Senior Sports Reporter
A healthy goal difference kept Bantu Rovers at the top of the Southern Region Division One Soccer League following a 0-0 stalemate against Victoria Falls Tigers on Sunday.

The result left Rovers tied on 55 points with Amagagasi.

Rovers went into Sunday’s match under pressure to get a positive result as they had been toppled by Amagagasi, who beat Hwange Juniors 2-1 on Saturday.

The former Premiership side survived a barrage of attacks from Tigers, who were almost walked over at home, as they only arrived at the match venue, Chinotimba Stadium, at 3.20PM when the match was meant to have kicked off at 3PM.

Tigers further delayed kick off after failing to hire the police for security.

The match only kicked off after some fans took the initiative to pay the police.

Spurred by the home crowd, Tigers gave a good account of themselves and could have buried Rovers with a bit of luck.

With four matches left before the season ends and all top four teams, Rovers, Amagagasi, Bulawayo Chiefs and ZPC Hwange still very much in the title race, any team that slips loses out.

Chiefs are tied on 54 points with ZPC Hwange and were held to a 0-0 draw by Black Boots.

ZPC Hwange beat Talen Vision 2-0 to revive their title hopes.

The electricity generators and Chiefs may eliminate each other from the title race when they face off at White City Stadium, while Amagagasi travel to Bulawayo for an early kick off against Talen Vision at the same venue.

Rovers will tomorrow play host to tricky Makomo, who were held 1-1 by ZRP Bulawayo Province at Luveve Stadium.
