ZIMBABWE’S leading radio station Star FM has donated sound proof room equipment to St Giles Medical Rehabilitation Centre as part of its corporate social responsibility. This follows a decision by the radio stations’ parent company, Zimpapers Group, to assist the institution after its senior management visited the centre last year.
Zimpapers general manager for the Radio Broadcasting Services Division Mr Comfort Mbofana said there were a lot renovations required at the centre and they were willing to assist.
“We have started with the speech therapy room, but we will continue to assist with all the other renovations and activities that will be taking place,” he said.
“We truly believe in everything you are doing and I assure you as the general manager that we will do all we can to support you as best as we can and also highlight all the great work that St Giles is doing. We will also do all we can to provide a platform to assist you in raising money for projects done here.’’
Zimpapers public relations manager Ms Beatrice Tonhodzayi said the firm is a business that deals with the community, thus it is its responsibility to give back to the community.
“Most people think Zimpapers is a propaganda machine, but I say Zimpapers is a profitable business and we believe that we must channel some of the money that we are making back to the communities we operate in,” she said.
“I am happy to announce that as the Zimpapers Group we are committing to continue working with St Giles this year, just as we did last year. I am currently working on the memorandum of agreement, which will see us utilising all our platforms to make sure people have an appreciation of what St Giles does and the services offered here.”
Ms Tonhodzayi urged Zimbabweans to support institutions that provide the same services as St Giles for the benefit of everyone.
St Giles chairperson Mr Ray Mawerera applauded the move by Star FM to refurbish the speech therapy room and give them publicity.
“The speech and language department sound proof had been affected by termites and we had no choice but to dismantle the sound proof boards to avoid further damage,” he said.
“For speech therapy to take place for certain conditions in children such as autism, it is necessary not to have disruptions of any kind.
“Thus we are thankful that Star FM came to our rescue.”
St Giles is a medical rehabilitation centre that provides services like adult occupational therapy, adult physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, counselling for suicidal individuals or cancer patients, speech therapy and children’s physiotherapy.
