Organisers for the fifth edition of the Star FM Listeners Choice Music Awards have released the nomination list ahead of the show which will be held on online next month.
This year’s event will run under the theme, “It’s All About the Artistes” with the voting platform having been opened and ending on April 17.
This was revealed during Star FM Listener’s Choice Music Awards 2023 nominees’ ceremony held yesterday at the station, in Harare.
Star FM head of programming, Steve Vickers, said there were 17 categories and the voting process had begun.
He said the decision was backed by the quest to create excitement that will test competence within the artistes.
“As a Star FM we are all about local artistes, and this year we will focus on honouring and rewarding them. During the online show there will also be live performances.”
“We will be breaking new grounds with the awards event, as a radio and online experience which will feature live performances from artistes”, said Vickers.
He said artistes in various music genres were set to compete while the audience would push through and vote for their choice.
“Leo Magozz, Takura and Quonfuzed are leading the way with four nominations each in the fifth edition of the Star FM Listener’s Choice Awards. They are all in the running of the Song of the Year award, with Fire Emoji, Haarore and Kamunamato Kekubhawa”, he said.
He urged artistes to drive the music industry through quality projects that had a vast potential of attracting more audience for the national radio station.
He commended rising artistes for competitiveness in driving local music genres in different spaces they were confined in such as hip-hop, rnb and Zimdancehall.
“There are three nominations each for rising hip-hop star SaintFloew, Freeman Feli Nandi, South African-based Shasha, and for Ishan’s collaboration with Annatoria on Lola.
Speaking in the same event, Star FM head of production and music Hardin Gurupira said the nominees consisted of 75 percent of the local artistes.
“We look at technical project with quality so that it appeals to the Star FM. We advise our artistes to keep their music clean as possible since we operate on the national radio station. The radio should accommodate everyone, that is why we recommend clean music,” he said.
