Star FM which went live on June 25, 2012 has partnered with organisers of the Burna Boy concert in Harare where they are issuing VIP tickets to lucky listeners as part of its third anniversary celebrations.
“We’ve partnered with a new Harare nightspot Pablo’z as part of our celebrations. We’re giving away tickets to the Burna Boy show during our Breakfast Club and 326 Express shows. We’re now left with 10 VIP tickets from 20,” said Star FM’s programmes manager Comfort Mbofana.
Burna Boy, a Nigerian reggae dancehall artiste will be heading to Zimbabwe on Friday for a once off show on Saturday that will see him officially launch the Pablo’z joint (former Mekka and H20).
Mbofana said the fast growing station known for hosting mega bashes would host its official celebrations in two weeks time at a venue to be advised.
“We’ve grown as a station and we’ve been trendsetters. Through Godfather Templeman’s shows we’ve popularised Zimdancehall and discovered a lot of stars in that genre. This is one of our many achievements as we were also the first station to broadcast outside Zimbabwe,” said Mbofana.
He said they were striving to fulfil their mandate as a national broadcaster by being accessible across the whole country, though they have covered about 80 to 90 percent. Star FM — which has given birth to personalities — Napster, Nikki, The Moxinator, KVG, Phathisani ‘Mkwasha Mboko’, Daywalker and Soul Sister, is now popular with listeners abroad through their online streaming.
“There’s been a lot of positive feedback from people in the Diaspora as they enjoy listening to our station through online live streaming. This is a positive development and we shall continue giving them quality programming,” said Mbofana.
