TONGA musician Day Tawanda Ncube, better known as DT Bio Mudimba, says performing at State functions and national events has enhanced his profile.
The “Kujata Jata” hit-maker, who has showcased his talent at more than 10 national events, was also humbled by national event coordinators for believing in his talent.
Mudimba made this revelation ahead of his performance at the 46th Uhuru Gala, set for Maphisa Growth Point in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province.
Running under the theme “Zim@46 — Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030,” the gala will take place at Minda High School this Saturday.
With the euphoria having reached fever pitch in Maphisa and its surrounding areas, fun is guaranteed in Matabeleland South, where household names will be alternating on one stage.
Being a high-profile event in which Zimbabwe will celebrate its 46th independence, Mudimba and the superb Kaana Stars Band can’t wait to showcase their talents.
“We are ready for the event in Maphisa, where we are going to run shoulders with yesteryear musicians and the new crop of stars,” said the excited Mudimba.
“I last performed there in 2023 during one of the well-attended national events, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
“Now that I am making a comeback there on Independence Day, I can assure my fans of an electrifying show in Maphisa.
“People in the region have embraced our music, and we are determined to return the favour by delivering a polished show.”
The 41-year-old firmly believes that the exposure he gained from performing at national events has changed his profile.
“I will be ungrateful if I don’t thank my Government for including us at national events, because this has improved our fortunes.
“In my case, performing at national events has not only made me famous but has also improved my network.
“My social capital is now huge as a result of that inclusion, which has made my job easier these days.
“Everywhere I go, people know my name, and I am glad that this has been enhanced by performing at national events like the upcoming 46th Uhuru Gala in Maphisa,” asserted the fiery rhythm guitarist.
He urged fans to turn up in large numbers and celebrate Uhuru through music and dance.
“Independence is something special that we should all cherish as a nation.
“We need to bury our differences if there are any and come together to celebrate who we are as Zimbabweans.
“I will be glad if we can all come together and celebrate in Maphisa.
“I also urged those who might not make it to Maphisa to follow proceedings online and on television as well, since it will be broadcast live,” he added.
Besides Mudimba, a star-studded line-up has been confirmed for this musical extravaganza, which is set to attract hordes of fans.
To him, it will be more than just a show but a timely reunion with some of the top musicians in Zimbabwe.
Top musicians from the region who are set to add spice at the gala include Chase Skuza of the Banolia fame, Socha Moyo (who fronts Black Umfolosi), Jeys Marabini, and Sandra Ndebele.
Dendera exponent Suluman Chimbetu, Andy Muridzo, Dereck Mpofu, Admire “Chief Hwenje” Sanyanga, Gudoluhle and Friends, Dubia Masters, Bolamba Culture Birds, Zondamuthakathi Dance Group, and Zinja Ziyamuluman Mxolisi are also part of the line-up, along with other surprise acts from the region.
Anxiety has since gripped Maphisa, where preparations are in full swing.
Serious road rehabilitation is also taking place in the area, with the Government hosting State functions.
A business boom is expected, with the Government assuring attendees of maximum security.
Last year, Nembudziya Government High School in Gokwe, Midlands, hosted the 45th Uhuru Musical Gala, featuring an impressive line-up that included Simon Mutambi, Admire “Chief Hwenje” Sibanda, Suluman Chimbetu, Andy Muridzo, Clement Magwaza, Argatha Murudzwa, Shantel Sithole, Jah Signal, the Mbare Chimurenga Choir, Sandra Ndebele, and Peter Moyo.
This time around, attention will again be on musical greats led by Skuza and Black Umfolosi, led by former freedom fighter Socha Moyo.
Black Umfolosi operated in the area under ZIPRA forces before he crossed to Zambia, where he received further training.
Musically, he has also toured the region and commands a loyal following.
For Mudimba, the Maphisa gala would be a perfect homecoming as he returns to his roots, where he commands a huge following.
The show will be a mix of veterans and new-school talent in Maphisa—where events of this nature are rare.
This year promises even more fun, with a star-studded line-up set to awaken Maphisa Growth Point from its deep slumber.
For Mudimba, the event has given him a chance to show millions of Zimbabweans what makes him unique as an Afro-fusion star.
After all, Mudimba still has the mojo to carry on.
