State security agent implicated in drugs

A State security agent accused of dealing in drugs yesterday appeared in court on allegations of pointing a firearm at his former drug supplier demanding a fresh order.
Percy Mafirakureva (32) is facing charges of pointing a firearm and threats of violence.

He is expected back in court on October 16 for trial.

The court heard that Mafirakureva is employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a security agent and is also attached to the FERET team, a joint team of police officers and the President’s Office agents.

The complainant in the matter is Manyara Makande (31).

It is alleged that Mafirakureva and Makande are former partners in illegal drug dealing, with the latter believed to have been supplying the former with Broncleer cough mixture for resale.

It is alleged that in May this year Makande stopped supplying Mafirakureva with the product, prompting him to contact her on July 18.

Mafirakureva allegedly asked Makande to meet him at Warren Park 1 Shopping Centre.

It is alleged that Mafirakureva started sweet talking Makande into supplying him with the drugs again but she declined, insisting that she had stopped that line of business.

This did not go down well with Mafirakureva who drew his service pistol and pointed it at her.

He allegedly told her that he was on an operation to arrest drug dealers and she was to supply him with names of other drug dealers.

After failing to provide the alternative, Mafirakureva poked Makande with the gun in the chest demanding five boxes of Broncleer cough mixture or US$500. Makande was given 15 minutes to look for the money while Mafirakureva threatened to plant dagga at her house or shoot her if she brought nothing to him, it is alleged.

Makande went to her brother-in-law Eddington Mushore, a police officer, to whom she narrated her ordeal.

Mushore phoned Mafirakureva but he refused to talk to him. Mafirakureva kept calling Makande threatening her until she reported the matter at Harare Central Police Station.

Detective Assistant Mayaya, who is in charge of the FERET team, denied deploying the accused in that area on that day.
