Stidolph spawns out another gem

RENOWNED trainer Bridget Stidolph stole the show once again as her horse Peggson romped to victory in the 2019 Castle Tankard Race at Borrowdale Park yesterday.

With Brendon Mcnaughton on the saddle, South African horse Peggson crossed the line first ahead of Leven Point, also trained by Stidolph and Fareeq from Australia.

Arte, from South Africa and trained by Kirk Swanson came fourth.

The owners of Peggson pocketed $60 000 while the second placed horse earned its owners $20 000.

Last year’s winner Roman Discent, also trained by the famous Stidolph, and Amsterdam who went into race as favourites, finished outside the top four.

Roman Discent could not defend the title won last year and in the process failed to emulate Taranaki, the only horse to have defended the Castle Tankard crow in 40 years.

Taranaki won the title in 1978 and defended the crown the following year.

Comanche Brave won the 2017 title while Rock The Country rocked in 2016.

But it was trainer Stidolph who hogged the limelight at Borrowdale yesterday as she had two horses coming first and second in the 1800m race.

Peggson and Leven Point took first and second place in a thrilling race before an appreciative crowd at Borrowdale Park yesterday.

Stidolph also trained Roman Discent to the title last year.
