LEGENDARY midfielder Stanford “Stix” Mutizwa has set out to guide along the next generation of footballers after putting together a new academy which is scheduled to be launched at the tail end of the year.
The former Warriors, Black Rhinos and CAPS United star has joined hands with his childhood friend Vincent Enganayi to form the Stix and Bhawa Academy. Mutizwa has since travelled to the UK at the invitation of Enganayi, where he is expected to undergo some training and attachments at different academies before he comes back home in November.
“I am happy to be in the UK, where we will do some benchmarking and undergo through some training before we launch our academy,” said Mutizwa.
“We are to register an academy, and we will be buying the equipment here in the UK. “We will also be learning from the best on how they are doing it here in the UK.
“Once we do that, we will then see how best we can also do the same at home.
“We grew up in Mbare (with Enganayi), and we know the difficulties there and other areas. We will be taking kids from different areas, including the rural areas, to train them. We will also find placements for them across Europe, and the groundwork for that is already underway.”
Mutizwa, who made it to the Soccer Stars of the Year calendar a record nine times during his heyday, has accumulated vast experience in coaching having led Black Rhinos.
He has also spent years at one of the leading academies across the country, Jadel Football Academy, which also has international branches. Enganayi said; “Stix (Mutizwa) is here in the UK to familiarise himself with modern trends. He will get attachments at different academies.
“We will be signing twinning deals in the UK, Germany, France and different other countries.
“I know there are limited opportunities back home, and that is the gap that we want to plug.
“Our aim is to give the young kids a future.
“We are not only going to zero in on football but other sports codes too. We will also have cricket, tennis, rugby and other sports. We will also have music.”
