BULAWAYO was left clucking in disbelief after a 53-year-old man was hauled before the courts for allegedly turning a Chicken Inn bus into his personal bedroom.
Samuel Chibura appeared before magistrate Themba Chimiso facing a charge of criminal trespass after he was found snoozing peacefully inside the company bus at the Trade Fair Chicken Inn Drive Thru.
Prosecutor Arnold Mudekunye told the court that on 14 November at around 9 AM, a Black Shark security guard received a juicy tip off from a cleaner who had stumbled upon Chibura curled up and sleeping like a satisfied customer in the bus.
Startled guards confronted him and demanded to know how he ended up having a VIP nap in a fast food company vehicle. Chibura claimed he was running away from criminals and the Chicken Inn bus looked like the safest hotel available.
A full inspection of the bus revealed that nothing had been stolen and nothing was damaged. The only disturbance was the surprise passenger who had checked in without booking.
Chibura was remanded in custody until 28 November as the court decides what to do with the city’s most unusual “drive thru guest.”
He was further remanded to 5 December after the case failed to kick off.
