VETERAN Denis Streak leads the national team that leaves the country today for the Africa States Bowls tournament that starts in Lusaka, Zambia, tomorrow. The nine-day event will see about six countries participating in the bowling disciplines, trips, pairs and single. Matabeleland Bowls Association president Olly Baker said the team was prepared as they took part in some competitions that allowed them to hone their skills.

“We’re sure the teams will provide good competition and make the nation proud,” said Baker.

She said they were hoping the men’s side will give a good account after a poor performance at the International Quadrangular and seniors’ series bowls tournament that was held last month. The women’s team fared better by winning gold at the event.

Streak has vast experience having represented Zimbabwe at various international competitions over the years.

The men’s team will also consist of Clive Robertson, Terry Bowes, Mike Eaton and Tom Cravin, while Kerry Cravin, Jane Rigby, Derby Robertson, Ally Dale and Mary James form the women’s side.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Champion of Champions club tournament will kick off in Kadoma and Chegutu.

Baker said the women’s event will be held in Kadoma while men will play in Chegutu.
