TWO Bulawayo thugs who turned 8th Avenue into a no-go-zone, robbing a resident of a cellphone and cash are now cooling their heels behind bars.

Marvellous Dhliwayo (25) and Zibuse Phakathi (35) of Matsheumhlophe suburb appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba facing robbery charges after their violent dawn attack on Khulisani Sibanda (22).

The court heard that on 6 October at around 5AM, the pair, together with an accomplice still on the run, pounced on Sibanda along 8th Avenue and Fife Street.

“One of the accused struck the complainant in the face while the others snatched his Huawei cellphone, a cap, and US$200 in cash,” said Prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira.

The brutal ambush left Sibanda nursing facial injuries while the thugs vanished into the morning shadows. Their street spree didn’t last long, though, the duo was later arrested, but the US$275 loot remains missing.

Both men were remanded in custody until 21 October, as the court digs into their early morning mischief.
