Street Set to bounce back: Founder

Gerald Sibanda, Sports Writer

STREET Set, who have been among the worst performing teams in the Southern Region Division One Women’s Soccer League, will bounce back.

This is the bold declaration of founder Lee Mangena.

They are among the longest surviving women’s football projects in the city.

The team which has players from Nketa, Tshabalala and Nkulumane has not been having the best of runs this season.

They have conceded 23 goals in their first three games.

“We have not had the start we would have wanted to,but I would like to advise the supporters and the people who follow the team with interest that, they should be patient with the girls, we will bounce back,” Mangena said.

Street Set, known as the “Sporo Girls” have not managed to score a single goal.

“In terms of goal scoring, I really cannot blame the attackers and say that they are misfiring as there is limited supply for them to thrive from. We have also not had a good goalkeeper hence we have conceded many goals. We recently signed a new goalkeeper Lorraine Pasi and we hope that this will help us improve,” said Mangena.

He also blamed lack of resources for the team’s poor results.

“Yes we do get help here and there but not everyone will have the money to help us every weekend,” said Mangena.

He however promised a better show in the next matches saying he has six new players from Lobengula City Queens.

Mangena’s team play away to Highlanders Royals at Highlanders Clubhouse this weekend and they will have work to do as their opponents have been in form and have not lost a match this season.
