A 22-YEAR-OLD college student allegedly terminated a five-month pregnancy and hid the foetus in a drawer. Brunette Sibanda, of Burnside suburb, was found lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom by her aunt, Sazini Dube, on Saturday.

She told Dube she was experiencing an unusually heavy menstrual period, in a bid to explain the blood.

The court heard that a maid, Gladys Ndlovu, had earlier discovered the dead foetus hidden in a drawer when she went to clean the room.

Sibanda, who was shopped to the police by her aunt, on Tuesday appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze facing a charge of unlawful termination of pregnancy.

She pleaded guilty and was remanded out of custody to March 13 for sentencing.

Msipa-Marondedze ordered her to report to Hillside Police Station every day until she returns to court.

Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court on Saturday last week, at around 4PM, Dube noticed a trail of blood coming from under the door to Sibanda’s bedroom.

“When she entered, she found her in a pool of blood and she quickly took her to the hospital for treatment,” said Dlodlo.
