BULAWAYO producer and music promoter Biko-Maximus-Maphosa’s excruciating walk from Bulawayo to Harare protesting against the lack of unity among local artistes seems to be paying off, if Stunner and Calvin’s recent collaboration is anything to go by.
It seems Calvin’s performance at the Zimbabwe Hip Hop awards in Harare last week is bearing fruits as he was spotted by another artiste, Stunner for a collaboration.
Calvin, who returned to Bulawayo over the weekend, spent the rest of last week at Stunner’s Tazoita Ca$h Records studio working on vocals and instrumentals with Stunner for their track which they hope to release next week.
As a result of Biko’s march to Harare, Stunner said he decided to partner Calvin because they wanted to show people that artistes could work together, regardless of where they come from.
“Bulawayo and Harare artistes should work together and I feel it’s something we need to do more often. People need to know that Zimbabwe is not Harare only so people should work together and end this whole Harare-Bulawayo impasse,” Stunner said.
The Godo hit-maker said he approached Calvin after watching his impressive performance at the awards.
“I’d seen Calvin numerous times on ZBCtv during a show that showcases hip hop artistes. I saw him perform at the Zim Hip Hop awards and I was impressed.
“That’s when I approached him and he agreed to work with me,” he said.
Asked for the title of the track they were working on, Stunner said they were yet to name the hip hop song.
“The track will be a party track for the festive season. I did some verses in Shona and Calvin did the others in Ndebele,” he said.
Calvin said he was excited to be working with a talented artiste, saying he had learnt that humility was key to being a superstar.
“Stunner is a talented, yet humble person. I thought he was going to be arrogant but alas, he was very humble. He respected me as an artiste and appreciated my talent and so did I,” Calvin said.
Once released, the track will not be sold as the musicians want it to reach as many people as possible during the festive season.
