Successful fight against Covid-19, new phase of China in 2023

China’s anti-epidemic policy is based on science and works effectively with remarkable achievements.

The success of dynamic Zero-Covid-19 policy protected people’s health

From 2020 to 2022, China put the people and their lives above all else, worked to prevent both imported cases and domestic resurgences, and tenaciously pursued a dynamic zero-Covid policy for the past three years. 

The people’s health and safety have been protected to the greatest extent possible, and tremendously encouraging achievements have been made in both epidemic response and economic and social development.

China managed to maintain the lowest level of the number of the severe end of the disease spectrum and death around the world. 

China always adheres to the people-centred development ideology with a distinct vision of being responsible for the people and their lives, which has won wide praise from the international community and has recognised by various media outlets and government officials. 

Hassane Rabehi, Algeria’s ambassador to China, said the measures taken by the Chinese authorities towards Covid-19 are based on scientific evaluation.

The optimised and adjusted Covid-19 policy accelerates China’s recovery

Considering the pathogenicity of the omicron strain has weakened obviously, the severe disease rate and mortality rate caused by the virus have dropped significantly. 

Since January 8, 2023, China has actively optimised the anti-epidemic measures according to the time and situation, to minimise impacts on people’s life and work.

Nowadays, the overall situation of the pandemic in China has reached a low infection stage. 

The number of infected has maintained a steady decline in various places, while Chinese economy has been accelerating recovery and development, which shows the victory of China’s improved and adjusted Covid policy.

According to information from the Chinese Centre for the Disease Prevention and Control, during the Spring Festival, the volume of diagnosis and treatment in fever clinics in China has reduced a lot, which reached the lowest point on the first day of the Lunar New Year, and has always been lower than the volume before the holiday. 

Compared with the peak volume on December 23, 2022, it has dropped by 94 percent.

The optimised measures show their success by the booming of Chinese domestic consumer market. 

According to the Ministry of Commerce of the people’s republic of China, during the Spring Festival, the sales of key retails and catering enterprises increased by 6.8 percent. 

At the same time, the consumption of food and beverages during the holiday increased by 15,4 percent and per store consumption increased by 10.8 percent.

China’s services trade value grew 12,9 percent year-on-year in 2022, and exports of services expanded 12,1 percent while imports of services up 13,5 percent. 

Travel services continued recovery momentum in the period, as trade in this sector advanced 8,4 percent.

While effectively preventing and controlling the domestic epidemic, China actively advocated the international community’s solidarity to fight against the epidemic, provided vaccines and a large amount of anti-epidemic goods to the world. 

China also shared information with the World Health Organisation and other countries in an open, transparent and responsible manner, to help the international community respond to the epidemic.

The country’s combination of epidemic prevention and economic development will play an important role in promoting the recovery of the world economy. 

Against the backdrop of weak global economic development, China’s optimised epidemic prevention policies and enforced favourable economic measures are also widely welcomed by countries around the world. 

China will bring more development opportunities to the world in 2023

In 2023, China’s economy will pick up steadily.  As the world’s second largest economy, the country’s expansion of opening up and stable economic growth will undoubtedly boost the confidence of developing countries and inject new strong impetus into the recovery of the world economy.

China’s response to it has entered a new stage that provides it with broader space to pursue high-quality development. 

As one of the largest consumer markets in the world, the demand accumulated in China over the past three years will be fully released, and a series of policies implemented in the near future will also have a superimposed effect. 

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected China’s economy will grow by 5,2 percent in 2023, 0,8 percentage point higher than October 2022 forecast.

 China will be further unleashed, which will provide strong impetus for world economic recovery and benefit the economic and social development of countries globally.
