Sugar industry under spotlight

The sugar value chain is under parliamentary spotlight with officials from various Government Ministries and parastatals appearing before the Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce.

The officials include Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries,Water and Rural Development Permanent Secretary, Professor Obert Jiri, management of the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Corporation and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The Committee is chaired by Zaka South legislator, Cde Clemence Chiduwa.

Appearing before the Committee, Professor Jiri said the sector is facing challenges that include high costs of production.
