SULU NOT GOING ON BREAK

SULUMAN Chimbetu will not go on annual leave during this time of the year, his management has said.

Most artistes in the mainstream music industry have gone on annual leave since most fans are still recovering from the usually dreaded “January Disease” spawned by overspending during the festive season.

Alick Macheso is already at his Chivhu farm, while other household names like Jah Prayzah, the Charambas, and Janet Manyowa usually go on annual leave.

“Back to school” commitments have further drained revellers’ earnings, which has resulted in some not attending lives shows.

In an interview with H-Metro, one of Sulu’s handlers, Pliers Paurene, said fans still need music to ease their sorrows.

“The Orchestra Dendera Kings decided not to take a break this January because we discovered that our fans had no live entertainment for the past two to three years due to the Covid -19 pandemic.

“The entertainment industry resumed recently and as Dendera, we have not yet reached many areas and entertained our fans enough.

“So taking a break will be more of depriving our fans of the most educating and entertaining Dendera music hence our decision not to break,” he said.

Sulu, who is set to hold a show at Bar Rouge this Friday, is expected to sample new stuff during the show.

“After successfully releasing a single called Khakhi featuring Jah Signal, we are also working on perfecting a new album, which, if all goes according to plans, will be released in the first quarter of 2023.

“We are also promoting young and upcoming artists and in particular, the girl child who has not been given a chance by many to showcase their talents.

“We have held several shows in and around Harare with Sasha Amadhuve in the spirit of supporting her works,” he said.

Other musical bands usually take a break in January for various reasons, the leader might want to go on a private holiday or just simply take a rest and do other things which are not music related.

“At Orchestra Dendera Kings everyone is available and ready to provide entertainment to our readily available fans.

“We have a diary that we are maintaining for both private and public functions,” he said.

Unveiling their plans for the first quarter of 2023, Pliers promised more synergies with other musicians.

“In this quarter we look forward to working with various female artists from different parts of the country.

“Music will always remain an integral part of our life, and we can’t afford to run away from it,” he said.
