SUNDAY News senior reporter Vusumuzi Dube scooped the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) Investigative Journalist of the Year award at a ceremony held in Harare on Friday.

The winning story was an investigative article on borehole water in Bulawayo, which scrutinised the proliferation of boreholes in Bulawayo at a time when there are by-laws which state that it is illegal to consume borehole water.

“I dedicate this award to my late bosses Paul Mambo and Dumisani Sibanda, who both saw a potential in me when I was a student and encouraged me to do the municipal beat. It was a huge task at the time because other publications had senior reporters being municipal reporters and I was a mere student, but with their guidance I made through.

“I am sure wherever they are, they are proud of their product. I would also like to thank my current boss Limukani Ncube and News Editor Gabriel Masvora, as they have also showed confidence and supported me as a reporter. For me honestly, the sky is the limit,” said Dube.

In November, last year, Dube also won the Economic Justice for Bulawayo Journalist of the Year in the National Journalistic and Media Awards (Njama) for reporting objectively on issues affecting society.
