UNITED STATES-BORN Ruvimbo Mucherera has made herself available to be considered for Mighty Warriors assignments if the coaches find her suitable.
The 28-year-old, who has played professional football in the US and Europe, is in the country to fix her Zimbabwean passport.
“Yes, I would love to play for Zimbabwe if considered,” said Mucherera, a holder of a Doctor of Philosophy degree.
She boasts European Champions League experience with Lithuanian champions Gintra Universitetas. Mucherera also received favourable reviews during her college days, when she won several top awards.
“I have been playing professional football since 2020,” she said.
“I have played in a couple of different countries like Lithuania, Finland, Portuga CVl for a little bit and Ireland, and also spent some time with some pro teams in the US.
“While I played with a few of these teams, I also got the opportunity to play in the Champions League, which was a great experience.”
Born on October 5, 1996, Mucherera did all her schooling in the US.
She is excited about the prospect of playing for the Mighty Warriors one day.
“Yes, I am excited to hopefully join the Mighty Warriors and see where this opportunity takes me,” she said.
“Growing up, I knew of Zimbabwe having a national team, but did not know much else as women’s football was not supported as it is nowadays.
“Even nowadays, there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done in women’s football all across the world and not just here in Zimbabwe.
“So, if I can inspire and help with the growth of women’s football here in Zimbabwe, I consider that a blessing and an honour.”
While running errands to sort out her papers, Mucherera has been to Maningi FC, who play in the national women’s Premier League.
“My visit to Maningi was a great welcoming experience and I am grateful that they had me come out.
“I love to see where there is a women’s league, and just like with the national team, I would love to see growth in this league as well.
“I hope I inspired the girls, women and men who came out that day, and had a chance to listen to me speak.”
Mucherera said she was happy to be home.
Both her parents live in the US.
“I am happy to be here in Zimbabwe and, hopefully, moving forward with the Mighty Warriors,” she said.
The Mighty Warriors’ best has been qualifying for the Olympics in 2016. They have also played in the continental and regional championships. Mucherera could make her debut for Zimbabwe in this year’s COSAFA Championships.
