TENNIS: Zimbabwe qualifies to the 2015 DAVIS Cup Euro/Africa Zone Group II

The Zimbabwe Davis Cup team has been promoted to the 2015 DAVIS Cup Euro/Africa Zone Group II after defeating Namibia 2-0 in the semi-finals in Egypt.

Zimbabwe’s Number 1 Takanyi Garanganga beat Tuki Jacob 6-2 6-2 while Benjamin Lock dismissed Jacobus Serdym 6-0 6-1 at the Group III tournament held at Smash Tennis Academy this morning.

Non -playing captain Dzuwa said the team was happy to have finally qualified.

‘Everyone is just happy we are celebrating,” Dzuwa said.

In the round robin stages of the Africa Group III competition Zimbabwe had finished top of Pool A after winning all their three matches.

The five men team comprising of Dzuwa, Takanyi Garanganga, Tinotenda Chanakira, Benjamin Lock and Mark Fynn began on a winning note last Monday.

They claimed a 3-0 win over Congo.

On Wednesday Zimbabwe continued with the fine performance dismissing Nigeria 3-0 before a 2-1 triumph over Madagascar the following day.
