Sungura musicians soldier on

Entertainment Reporter
A number of sungura musicians released albums last month and some of their new songs are already getting good airplay on local radio stations. Although the sungura music sect is now facing challenges as fans continue to lose faith in established artistes that have been releasing below-standard albums, a host of musicians from this genre are soldiering on.
Herbert Majeke teamed up with experienced instrumentalists including guitarists Spencer Khumulani and Knowledge Nkoma plus drummer Obert Gomba for a six-track album titled “Huruyadzo”.

The first track “Chakafukidza” implores women to be courageous in dealing with their domestic problems with the main song “Huruyadzo” being a kanindo track that encourages people to be strong in everything they do.

“Kanganwiro” tells people to forgive one another as stated in the Bible and the last song “Nyaya Dzekutumira” is a message for people to learn to do things at their own without unnecessary mediators.

All the songs were well arranged and the mastering and mixing was done properly save for the last song that has some voices that were off key.
Another artiste Tendai Chipara released an album titled “Zvakutapira” which is doing well on radio.

Although the musician had well-arranged instruments, he seems to be trying hard to sound like the late Tongai Moyo.
The title-track “Zvakutapira” is a party song that encourages people to be happy while “Mistake” gives hope to people who have many regrets in their lives.
The musician praises God for his mercy in his song “Simba raMwari” and the track “Huya Tifare” encourages couples to be happy always.

Mutare-based promoter and musician Brian Samaita released his fourth album “Murodzi wePfungwa” .
Samaita also sounds like Tongai Moyo and seems determined to follow the late musician’s path as evidenced by his previous releases.

Although the album is still to make an impact on the local market his songs are well arranged.
“Solomon” is a song that describes the wisdom of the Biblical Solomon with the second track “Main Actor” describing how people stage-manage their lives.
The song “Tichauyako” is a tribute to Moyo. In the song he tells people that he will come to them to retrace the footsteps of the late musician who was his close friend.
