Harare Minister of State Provincial and Devolution Affairs Charles Tawengwa has commended the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) for its concerted efforts in developing the Sunway City Integrated Park.
He said the developments witnessed so far are in line with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and Vision 2030, which both emphasise the importance of Special Economic Zones.
Minister Tawengwa said this yesterday after touring Sunway City Integrated Park, which is one of the leading state-owned land developers in Harare to check progress on development.
Sunway City develops eco-friendly world-class integrated industrial, commercial, residential, institutional, and recreational parks in line with the “Smart City” concept.
Among the delegates were Secretary for Provincial and Devolution Affairs Cosmas Chiringa, CEO of Sunway City Collin Mutingwende, Sunway City Board Chair Dr Linos Mapfumo, and a delegation from the Industry and Commerce Ministry.
Speaking after the tour, Minister Tawengwa said the creation of the city is anchored on the four pillars of the NDS1.
“This project is complementing what the Government has been preaching of creating an upper-middle-income economy by 2030,” he said.
“This project is going to create and spearhead industries, social development, infrastructure development, economic growth, and stability which are some of the pillars of the NDS1.”
Minister Tawengwa said Sunway City is living up to its potential of becoming a huge industrial and commercial hub.
“Sunway City is a way to say how do we capacitate Zimbabwe as a country into a regional cargo hub of SADC and Africa at large while capturing the high literacy rates we have.
“There is a vision and aspiration of building a medical centre that will be state of the art to complement Government’s efforts”.
