A SUPERMARKET in Old Magwegwe lost goods worth about $1,500 in a suspected inside job as thieves used duplicate keys to gain entry into the shop. Shop owner Nicholas Ndlovu confirmed the incident and said there were no signs of a break-in. “I lost goods worth about $1,500. The thieves used duplicate keys which are still missing to gain entry into the shop.
“Surprisingly, the security guard manning the premises didn’t hear or see anything,” said Ndlovu.
He said the keys which are missing were being kept by the supervisor although he did not want to suspect him.
“Those doors make a lot of noise when opening them, you’ve to kick them open and I wonder how the guard failed to hear it but they didn’t take any money,” he said.
The matter was reported to Magwegwe Police Station.
Ndlovu said some groceries and a till were found dumped at a bush in Marisha area in Old Magwegwe.
Bulawayo police provincial spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo was not available for comment as he was said to be out of office.
The incident comes barely a month after thieves broke into Choppies Supermarket in New Lobengula and got away with cash amounting to $15,000.
The burglars gained entry through the roof, used a grinder to cut open locks to three in-built safes and stole cash amounting to $12,801, R20,000 and P1,000.
No arrests have been made yet.
