The first round of auditions for the inaugural Supermodel Zimbabwe were successfully held in Bulawayo on Saturday.
The event saw close to a 100 male and female models showcasing their expertise in modelling, with a few inexperienced participants being given an equal opportunity on the runway.
Most models who participated expressed their excitement and optimism about advancing their modelling careers.
“Attending the audition is one of the best things I have done this weekend. The experience was amazing and thrilling. The whole process was well organised and I feel the auditions were held on fair grounds,” stated Saymore Machoni, one of the hopefuls.
Supermodel, Zimbabwe chairperson, praised the response from Bulawayo’s modelling community.
“I’m happy with the response from the Bulawayo people. I saw plenty of models today, close to a hundred. I can safely say we have seen everything here, but I was especially excited for Bulawayo because the city’s models generally do well in Europe and overseas,” Koric said.
“Our aim is to create our own supermodels who will represent international brands like Rolex, Dior and, many others. We have relationships with international agencies, so the winners will secure contracts with these agencies.”
She said in September, they will launch a Supermodel fragrance for both genders, with the winning models set to be the fragrances faces.
“Those selected will also come to Harare for a one-month boot camp, where we’ll thoroughly train them for the international market. We have also partnered with Lancôme and Zimbabwe Fashion Week and have secured some spots at Emerald’s Fashion Week. Therefore, some of our girls will work in Emerald’s Fashion Week in November,” she said.
Supermodel Zimbabwe CEO, Paidemoyo Chideya said the short-listed contestants will be announced in August, after they complete auditions across the country.
“Quite a number of contestants in Bulawayo were amazing; some of the men were outstanding. There were also many beautiful faces who came for the face competition, but we cannot reveal the number of contestants shortlisted. We will do that once we have finished the auditions across the country,” stated Chideya.
The Midlands province held its auditions in Gweru yesterday, with the next round of auditions set to occur in Mutare on July 20. Victoria Falls will host its auditions on July 27 and , Masvingo will have its turn on August 17, with the venues yet to be advised.
