IT felt as though the entire nation had gathered at Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare on Saturday night for Jah Prayzah’s highly-anticipated album launch, Ndini Mukudzeyi. The venue was packed to the brim, with thousands struggling to gain entry due to overwhelming demand.

Such scenes showed just how much of a superstar Jah Prayzah, whose real name is Mukudzeyi Mukombe, has become.

The 14-track album launch attracted a mix of socialites, government officials, business figures, fellow musicians, and hordes of devoted fans. With only two entrances available, one for VVIPs and the other for VIP and general ticket holders combined, entry bottlenecks marred the early stages of the event.

Once order was restored, Jah Prayzah made a dramatic entrance in an all-white outfit, rising from beneath the stage and ascending high above the crowd. The spectacle was met with thunderous cheers, setting the tone for what would be an electrifying evening.

Jah Prayzah started by apologising to his fans. He also adjusted his performance time to accommodate those still outside.

“First, I want to sincerely apologise for the delay. I heard some of my fans were still outside, so I couldn’t continue until they got in,” he said to roaring applause.

“I’m sorry for what happened, let’s get the show started! I’ve got something special lined up for you tonight.”

Opening with the title track Ndini Mukudzeyi, he delivered a 2-hour, 30-minute performance filled with high energy and crowd-pleasing hits. He effortlessly blended new tracks, Shuga, Necessary, Mandionei, and Ibvo with beloved classics, captivating the audience throughout.

“My biggest wish is for this new album to touch hearts and resonate deeply. I want to thank my mother, family, friends, and above all, my fans for making this day unforgettable,” he said.

Other songs featured on the album include Moto, Hubaba, Kwaunobva, Sori, Mibvunzo, Ruzhowa, Chiringiro, Chiramu, Manja, and Kuno.

Popular talk show host and relationship coach, Mai Rebecca Chisamba, was the guest of honour. Bringing her trademark charisma, she officially launched the album with her iconic sign-off: “Chiringa zuva chedu chinobva chakwata.”

She praised Jah Prayzah for his commitment to preserving cultural values, a mission she too has championed throughout her illustrious broadcasting career.

The event also showcased performances by several local artistes, including Feli Nandi, Shashl, Nisha Ts, Seh Calaz, and Culture Love, who all helped build anticipation before the main act.

Shashl impressed with her energetic performance and well-coordinated dancers, showing she is poised to take her career to the next level. Nisha Ts made the most of the opportunity to perform in front of a massive crowd, delivering a polished and confident set.

Feli Nandi, now regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s leading female voices, delivered a memorable performance. She dedicated her hit song Shamwari to Jah Prayzah and his band, 3G.

“Tonight, I’d like to celebrate my brother and good friend. Big up Jah Prayzah, and congratulations on your new album,” Feli said on stage.

Despite the earlier chaos, attendees still enjoyed a well-organised and memorable event.
