A Gweru City Council supervisor has been arrested for allegedly indecently assaulting a student on attachment.

Carmly Shava (46) of Mkoba 17 appeared before Gweru magistrate Mr Progress Murandu on indecent assault charges.

Shava pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded out of custody to August 2.

It is the State case that on March 11 while on the way to Mkoba on official business, Shava hugged and fondled the breasts of an Electrical Power Engineer student without her consent.

The prosecutor, Ms Wadzanai Shayanewako, said the student was instructed by a manager called Mr Chivasa to go to Mkoba ponds to fix a fault together with Shava.

The two, the court heard, boarded a council vehicle and the student sat between Shava and the driver, Mr Chapupu Dube.

Ms Shayanewako said on the way, Shava allegedly said to the complainant that she was a difficult person to work with.

He allegedly asked her why she was always alone and she replied that she was scared of him.

Shava allegedly hugged the student with his right hand and fondled her breast once with his left hand. The court heard that Shava told her not to be scared of him, assuring her that he was a free person.
