tops in the tourney held throughout the week. The Support Unit team dominated in athletics by winning 28 gold medals, 15 silver and 15 bronze for a total of 200 points.
Morris Depot province were the runners-up with 13 gold medals, 14 silver and 12 bronze for a total 198 points. Harare and Bulawayo provinces were tied on the same number of points after they finished on 83 points. Police Protection Unit finished in fifth place with eight gold medals, nine silver and one bronze medal.
The Commissioner General’s Sports Gala is used to select a team that will represent the country at the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs’ Co-operation Organisation.
The team will take part in the Games set for Windhoek, Namibia, later this year. Team Zimbabwe has managed to win the event in two successive years now. The other provinces, which took part, included Mashonaland East, Traffic, PGHQ, Masvingo, Mash Central, CID, Border Control Unit, Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West, Manicaland and Matebeleland South.
This year the number of athletes increased considerably and there were new sporting disciplines like golf coming on board.
