Suspected witch found stark naked

RESIDENTS of Mucheke in Masvingo were stunned when they woke up and found a naked woman standing near a house in the high density suburb, in a suspected case of witchcraft.The incident which has left residents of the city’s oldest suburb shocked happened on Saturday at about 5am.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed the incident.
He, however, said he was yet to get detailed information on the matter.

“I can confirm the incident but for now, I do not have full details on what exactly happened. I will check and come back to you,” said Insp Zhanero.
According to witnesses, the woman believed to be in her early 30s was found standing at a house at Old Railways section in Mucheke A.

They said the woman refused to disclose her identity but only revealed that she had travelled from Dewure area in Gutu.
“The woman was found stark naked at one of the houses. Her face was covered with white powder and she was taken to Chikato Police Station,” said a witness.

A loader at Mucheke Bus Terminus, who only identified himself as Samson, said a huge crowd among them women who were coming from the market, followed the nude woman to the police station.

“The sight of a naked woman attracted a lot of people who thronged the house where she was found standing and followed her to the police station. However, a Good Samaritan gave her a cloth which she used to cover herself as some mischievous youths were taking pictures.

“The woman said she travelled all the way from Gutu in a winnowing basket before her ‘aircraft’ developed a mechanical fault. She told us that she had a mission but could not execute it due to the powers that her targets possessed resulting in her getting stuck,” he said.

When Chronicle newscrew visited Chikato Police Station on Saturday, the woman had already been put in police cells.
