THE bail hearing for the two suspected witches arrested in Budiriro, Harare, recently will be heard tomorrow at the High Court. The case was set for yesterday, but Justice Joseph Musakwa postponed it to September 25 to allow the allocation of a judge to deal with the duo’s application.
Maria Moyo (30) and Chipo Chakaja (26) who claim to be from Gokwe Nembudziya are being charged with contravening section 98(1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly engaging in a practice commonly associated with witchcraft.
The two have been in custody since their arrest on September 10, while roaming outside a house in Budiriro 2.
The duo was found in possession of an owl, two winnowing baskets, animal skins, gourd, talisman and stuff believed to be used for witchcraft purposes.
They were remanded in custody under the Mental Health Act and ordered that they be examined by doctors to establish their mental status.
The two are being represented by lawyer Tawanda Takaindisa.
