DEBRA Swanson has once again underlined her dominance in local horse racing, fielding the largest team for the prestigious Grade One Castle Tankard set for May 10 at Borrowdale Racecourse.

The multiple award-winning trainer has entered eight of the 16 horses confirmed for the country’s oldest and most prestigious race meeting, edging out her rivals ahead of the OK Grand Challenge, which remains in doubt.

During yesterday’s nomination session, Swanson unveiled a powerhouse line-up headlined by Jet Mirage, rated second on 60kg, although many punters are leaning towards her other charge, the in-form Jager Moon, who is rated seventh.

Swanson is bullish about her chances and excited for the big day.

“I think we have some good runners in the line-up, and we are looking forward to race day,” said Swanson. “This is one of the most significant races on the local calendar, and it would be wonderful to have a winner.

We have been preparing diligently, and from now, we will focus on finalising jockey engagements. The race will be tough, but we are grateful to Delta Beverages and the Castle Lager brand for their unwavering support of this sport. Everyone stands a chance of winning, regardless of the number of entries.”

Newcomer Amy Parham has entered two runners, recently campaigned in South Africa, and believes they will be competitive.

“I think I have a bit of experience with my two runners, and they should be very competitive. I know the field is strong, but my horses will give others a good run for their money. I respect all the runners; may the best horse win,” said Parham.

Thomas Swanson will also be represented by two runners, Action Zone and Cosmetic Event, while Gavin McLeod has entered Raining Again and Captive Moon.

Meanwhile, Bridget Stido has bolstered the line-up with Citrsudal and Wantage.
