THE Debra Swanson yard dominated the nominations for the 2023 Castle Tankard horse race which will be held at Borrowdale Park and Racecourse on May 6.
The Castle Tankard will be marking the 63rd edition of the horse racing event that will mark a second year in a row as it returned last year after two years of inactivity.
The Swanson yard has seven entries out of the 15 entries which were accepted on Tuesday.
Leading with multiple winner Buggati Blue on the nominations, the stable also has Masaaken, Dindingwe, Three to Tango, Grand Warrior, Down to Business and Ideal View.
Coming on second is the Bridget Stido yard that has Lily Blue, who is the defending champion, and will face off with stablemate Only Him, Wantage and Citrusdal in the race.
New kid on the block Vanessa Birke has brought on board Mr Greenlight who will battle it out with seasoned campaigner from his yard Holly Land
Thomas Mason and Gavin McLeod have a single nomination each with the former bringing in seasoned campaigner True Beauty and the latter coming on board with Raining Again.
The Castle Tankard race was not held 2020 and 2021 following the suspension of all sporting activities as part of measures by the Government to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year the entries have increased after only 13 runners marked the return of the Castle Tankard race.
The event is sponsored by Delta Beverages through their leading beer brand Castle Lager.
Just like last year when Delta sponsored the event to the tune of US$50 000, the race day will receive the same amount this year.
