Prominent Swaziland comedian Mdura, real name Mduduzi Dlamini, was mugged at South Africa’s Park Station near Johannesburg’s New Town while he was on his way to a performance in Bulawayo.

The multi-award winning spoken wordsmith was billed for a show powered by Sanctified Comedy Club on 27 July, where he was supposed to perform alongside Dumisani “Ma Forty” Ndlovu and Harare-based comedian King Kandoro.

Mdura’s manager Larry Mhlanga confirmed the robbery from his base in eSwatini.

He revealed that the thugs got away with Mdura’s passport, backpack with a laptop and a phone. They also took cash at least R2 000 cash and bank cards.

“Mdura was supposed to perform at the Big Laughs comedy night in Bulawayo. However, he was robbed in South Africa at Park Station before he connected from Swaziland to Zimbabwe.

“We managed to report the matter to the South African Police Services (SAPS) and soon his bank accounts were blocked to avoid any harm on them by the thieves,” said Mhlanga.

As a way of compensating Mdura’s fans in Bulawayo for his absence on the day of the show, his manager said they would work with Sanctified Comedy Club for another gig in the city of kings.

Mdura is a seasoned comedian and boasts of numerous awards including 2018 /19 MTN SWAMA Award for Best Comedian and Swazi Observer Best Comedian of the year.

He is also the MTN brand ambassador and World Vision brand ambassador.

Meanwhile, Mdura’s unavailability didn’t stop the gig as Ma Forty, King Kandoro and the host Mandla Da Comedian kept the audiences in stitches, and the audience can testify to that.

Bulawayo arts practitioner Raisedon Baya posted on Twitter: “Tonight I witnessed some real good comedy. Clean, intelligent fun. Thank you @Ma Forty and @ King Kandoro.”

Ntombiphindile wrote: “As usual Ma Forty killed it. King Kandoro had the crowd in stitches. Overall well done guys.”
