ZPC Kariba defender Thomas Sweswe believes his vast experience will come handy tomorrow in the Chibuku Super Cup semi-final against Harare City at Mandava.
Sweswe, a veteran of many battles, has featured in such prestigious Cup games such as MTN Final, Telkom Cup and Nedbank Cup with South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
And he believes there is every reason to dream on.
“We started our training on Monday and this shows we mean business. We have been talking about this game and how important it is playing in a Cup final,” said Sweswe.
“I am one of the senior players in the team and the other players say they are learning a lot from me and expect me to help them and guide them all the time.
“We want to win this game and progress to the final as it is a good thing to get those medals and show your kids later in life what you would have achieved.
“It is an old Cup which was re-introduced recently and when we were growing up we heard about it and now we want to be part of it and make history by progressing to the final.”
The defender said he has noticed hunger within his team mates for success.
“There is no need to put yourself under pressure when approaching a Cup game but you just need to treat it like any other game,” he said.
“My most memorable Cup game was the Telkom Cup final, Kaizer Chiefs against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium soon after the 2010 World Cup and we won it 3-0 and there was a record crowd of 94 000 people.
“And my most heartbreaking Cup final was the MTN final in 2011 and it was a Soweto Derby again and we lost 1-0 to Pirates in the extra time.
“But each Cup match has one winner and a lot can happen and we are working hard at training so that come Saturday evening we would be the victors,” said Sweswe.
