Sweswe plots survival strategy

Sheasham head coach Lizwe Sweswe says they are no longer looking into the names of their opponents as they seek to collect points in all the remaining games in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The Construction Boys are scheduled to face Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday at Bata Stadium. They are coming from the back of a 1-1 away to Bulawayo giants, Highlanders.

Sheasham have amassed 27 points and they are looking to amass more points to move away from the drop zone.

Sweswe believes picking points is the only situation to survive the chop and they are seeking to collect points in all their remaining games.

“We are no longer focusing on the names of the teams that we are playing against but rather on the game. We are looking at teams the same as if you look at every team as playing for something as the league is set to come to an end,” he said.

“We are approaching all games with the same mentality which is to win games and collect points. As a team, you wouldn’t want to drop points at a point like this.”

Sweswe joined Sheasham from Bulawayo Chiefs just before the mid-season break and says he understands the majority of their players.

Chiefs are now under the guidance of Johanisi Nhumwa.

“I have been at Chiefs and I know a lot of them, what they can and are capable of doing. So I have an insight of the whole team though they also totally understand me as well but it’s one against the whole of them.

“Playing midweek and during the weekend is what is there and we have no other option. It’s simple we have to adjust or sink but we are just focusing on recovering and trying to strike a balance in the team.

“We urge our supporters to keep on supporting as they have done in the past games. In the recent past games, we have been playing to a good crowd and have been bolstering the confidence of the squad and we are grateful.”

Meanwhile, Sheasham goalkeeper Elton Sibanda is happy with his team’s performance in the 1-1 draw with Highlanders FC at Barbourfields Stadium on Wednesday.

Despite conceding a goal, Sibanda said his team performed well and he was comforted by his teammates after allowing Highlanders striker Stanley Ngala to equalise in the 80th minute.

“I was so happy with how the guys managed to handle the situation after we conceded that equaliser, I really felt that we are a united force.

“Apart from that goal, it was a game we could have easily won by two or three goals, considering the chances that we created. But despite all that, I believe we had a very good game and we are one of the few teams in the league I think, which are going to end the season without losing to Bosso, since we also drew in the first round in Gweru which is a motivating thing for us going into other matches. I think we will go there motivated and I am very happy,” said Sibanda.

Sibanda was disappointed by conceding as a clean sheet would have moved him closer to Ariel Sibanda who has 15.

Elton has 13 clean sheets in his debut season with the club in the Premiership.

“I had that in mind obviously. I needed a clean sheet in that match, I knew that it was not going to be easy. I am disappointed with the way I conceded the goal but at the same time I am optimistic that I will have many more in the following games,” said Sibanda.
