Sweswe sinks Sundowns

the under-pressure Amakhosi to a 1-0 victory over fellow title chasers Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus yesterday.
It was also a memorable match for Sweswe’s fellow Warriors, with defender Lincolin Zvasiya making his debut for Amakhosi since joining the Soweto giants during the August transfer window, and Tinashe Nengomasha playing his 300th match for Chiefs – only the fourth player to do so after legends Thabo Mooki, Brian Baloyi and Doctor Khumalo.
It was always going to be a fiery match and the Amakhosi made it clear early on that they would not be dictated to when Bernard Parker hacked down Teko Modise from behind in only the fourth minute of the match, and was shown a yellow card.
Following that sloppy tackle, however, the game soon fell into a nice rhythm which saw both sides playing a high paced game of football, and both looking threatening in attack.
Consequently, the fans packed inside the Loftus Stadium only had to wait 12 minutes before they saw the game’s opening goal and it went the way of the Phefeni Glamour Boys. Siphiwe Tshabalala was the creator of the goal as he whipped in a perfectly placed right-side free-kick which saw Thomas Sweswe rising highest to powerful head home from ten metres out, 1-0.
Nyasha Mushekwi went on a mesmerising individual run when he drove through the middle of the Chiefs defence, but Bartman was quickly off his line and spread himself well to make a fantastic one-on-one stop.
Nine minutes later and Themba Zwane attacked down the right flank for ‘Downs before pulling the ball back for an unmarked Elias Pelembe on the edge of the 18-yard box, but his shot was also superbly saved by Bartman diving low to his right.
Elsewhere yesterday Khama Billiat played the full 90 minutes as Ajax Cape Town remembered how to win with a 2-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic.

Tapuwa Kapini stood his ground as AmaZulu played out a goalless draw with Maritzburg United. Kapini, Ramson Zhuwao and Carlington Nyadombo all played.
On Saturday Energy Murambadoro’s Wit University drew 2-2 with Golden Arrows.
Arrows came from behind with Collins Mbesuma striking the equalizing second by rounding Murambadoro in a one-on-one. Sifiso Vilakazi scored twice for Wits and Thamsanqa Gabuza got the other for Arrows.
There was no joy for another Zimbabwean, Black Leopards’ Kingstone Nkhata, who not only saw his penalty saved by Moroka Swallows keeper Greg Etafia, but endured a 4-1 thrashing. Swallows – with Warriors right back Gilbert Mapemba playing the full match and Oscar Machapa playing in the first half – fought back from a goal down and carried off all three points with goals from Siyabonga Nomvethe, Ashraf Hendricks and a David Mathebula double.
