Swimmers eye gold

ZIMBABWE’S chances of winning more medals in the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Under-20 Youth Games swimming finals have increased with 10 swimmers qualifying for final events.

Zimbabwe has a chance to add more medals from the two silver medals they won on Thursday night in the mixed 4×100 metre freestyle relay — a combination of Chad Idenson, Ratidzo Mutangadura, Roxy Brown and Peter Wetzlar while the second one came from James Lawson in the men’s 100 metres breaststroke event.

The athletes who made it to the finals are Idenson, Wetzler in the 50 metres freestyle, Mutangadura in the 50 metres women’s backstroke, Lawson, city boy Brendan Cyprianos, Robin Lee, Mutangadura in the 50 metres butterfly, Lourna Doorman, Laurie Stephens in the 200 metre breaststroke and in the 200 metres backstroke Cyprianos and Dylan Steyl.

Meanwhile, one of Team Zimbabwe’s women favourites Kaleigh Graham has been dropped from the team after falling sick after yesterday’s races.
