Swimming ‘strokes’ for September return

Sports Reporter
THE Zimbabwe Aquatic Union have approached Government for permission to start this year’s competitive action in September.

As part of interventions to stop the spread of the coronavirus, swimming — together with 14 other sport codes — is only allowed to train.

As a result, clubs have been training using heated pools for the past two months. The union’s chairperson, Tracey Doorman, said they are now working on a proposal that would enable them to return to competitive action. The proposed guidelines and procedures will be submitted to Government through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) for approval.

“Since we were given the green light, clubs with access to heated pools in Harare and Bulawayo have been back in the water taking all recommended precautions.

“At this stage, we are not allowed to compete, so we are working on a proposal which will help us start our galas.

“Hopefully it will be approved without any hassles so that we resume competitions.”
