Swimming Team Zim receives kit boost

THE Zimbabwe team for the XXII Africa Aquatics Zone IV Championships to be held in Botswana next month has received a kit sponsorship from a local mobile money service provider, Ecocash.

The kit has been a significant boost to the team that is travelling to Botswana and will be presented on August 28 at the team’s send-off event that will take place in Harare and Bulawayo.

The Harare send-off will be at the Country Club and Bulawayo’s at Cresta Churchill Hotel.

In attendance will be Zimbabwe Aquatics, Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, Zimbabwe Swimming, the Sport and Recreation Commission, sponsors, swimmers and parents.

“We expect to have a high attendance from the invited guests, swimmers and their families.

“It is expected to be a two-hour long event with the sponsors presenting the kit to the management and swimmers,” said Tendai Mazike, the public relations officer of Zimbabwe Swimming.

The 42-member squad set for the September 2-5 competition includes some swimmers based outside the country.

Zimbabwe swimming is coming from a winter break although the athletes have stayed active by making use of heated pools.

“It is very hard to be in water during winter but they are determined and committed to ensure they are ready for the competition,” Mazike said.

Mazike said they appreciated the Ecocash sponsorship and challenged other corporates to come on board to support Zimbabwe sport.
