Taekwondo team hauls 29 medals in SA

THE Zimbabwe International Taekwondo Academy managed to amass a total of 29 medals at the Taekwondo South African Invitational Championships held in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Zimbabwe International Taekwondo Academy team had 19 athletes, winning seven gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals in their first attempt in the high-profile tournament that had several countries.

Li Songze was the biggest winner after winning gold medals in both sparring and pattern styles.

Also making a mark was Kondwani Ngwira, who returned home with a silver medal in sparring, a bronze in patterns and special techniques award.

Zimbabwe International Taekwondo Academy coach Evan Brown, who travelled with the team, was happy with the medals and said they are looking forward to take part in more international tournaments.

Gold medallists: Li Songze x 2 (sparring and patterns), Dalvin Brown (sparring), Simba Vashiko (power breaking), Peyton Sem (spar-ring), Leandri Scott (patterns), and Zvinashe (patterns).

Silver medallists: Kondwani Ngwira (silver sparring, bronze patterns and special techniques) and Zvinashe Makanga (silver).

Simba Vashiko (silver sparring & special techniques), Jordan Brown (silver; sparring and patterns), Siya Moyo (Silver sparring), Malachi Rikonda (silver patterns), and Tawongaishe Samukange (silver sparring).

Bronze medallists: Siya Moyo (sparring and patterns), Chloe Semu (Bronze sparring), Zvipozvashe Makanga (Silver sparring), Maluwa Ngwira (bronze sparring and patterns), Vuyelwa Moyo (Silver sparring and bronze patterns), and Tawongaishe Samukange (bronze sparring).
