The FC Platinum goalkeeper was on Friday night honoured as the second-best player in the Castle Lager Premiership behind Dynamos goalminder Washington Arubi to pocket US$3 000.
Warriors goalkeeper Arubi pocketed US$5 000 after he was crowned the 2011 Soccer Star of the Year and earned a further US$2 000 as he was also voted the Goalkeeper of the Year.
Dynamos will host their club awards this Wednesday and Arubi may win more accolades and may exceed Dube’s rich pickings.
Interestingly, the two goalkeepers played together at Lancashire Steel six seasons ago.
Dube basked in glory on Saturday night, barely 24 hours after receiving his fat cheque from Delta, and this time around he landed the top one as he was voted FC Platinum’s Player of the Year and won US$6 000. He pocketed another US$3 000 as he scooped the most consistent player of the year award.
The former Dynamos and Masvingo goalkeeper said he would invest wisely.
“I am happy. I worked hard this year and I deserve it. I will invest all this money. I have always invested wisely and I already have some investments.
“I have taxis and l am investing in some properties as well, so I am going to add onto that. Next year would be challenging for me as I have to maintain and improve on what I was did this year,” said Dube.
The goalkeeper added that he is ready to play in the Champions League having had his last dance in the continent’s premier club competition with former local champions Gunners.
Having faced Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Dube believes his experience will come in handy for the African Safari newcomers.
“It is our first time in the Champions League and being drawn against a team from Swaziland might be a blessing in disguise for us. If we do well in our first match it would be a morale booster for us and will give us the much-needed confidence, especially for the guys who would be playing in the Champions League for the first time.
The night also belonged to veteran midfielder Menard Mupera who was voted FC Platinum’s Players Player of the Year and walked away with US$4 000.
Forward Donald Ngoma, who is one of the Soccer Star of the Year finalists and pocketed US$1 000 for being among Delta’s 11 finalists, was voted Impact Player and walked away with US$2 500. Last year’s Soccer Star of the Year, Charles Sibanda, got US$2 500 after he finished as the club’s top goalscorer with 10 goals while defender Khumbulani Banda received US$1 500 after he was honoured with the goal of the season award. Raymond Sibanda also got US$1 500 for being the most disciplined player. Captain Zephaniah Ngodzo got US$2 500 from the Presidency Special Award for embodying the FC Platinum spirit throughout the season.
FC Platinum Under-19 team, which was promoted into the Zifa Central Region Division One, was also honoured. Larford Musungwa was voted the most disciplined player and walked away with US$500 while the top goal scorer, Josphat Phiri, also got US$500.
Obey Hunduza, who was voted the Players Player of the Year, received US$1 000 while Dennis Wakatama was voted the junior player of the year and walked away with US$500.
Jacobs Matekwe received the Presidency Special Award to walk away US$800 richer.
