INCUMBENT Tendai Tagara was retained unopposed as president of the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe at an elective annual general meeting held at Mpofu Lodge owned by long distance runner Sharon Tavengwa here yesterday.
All the association’s 10 provincial board chairpersons and secretary-generals concurred to give Tagara, who took over from then long serving Joseph Mungwari in 2013, another four-year term in office.
While Tagara was retained unopposed, the two other positions at stake, those of first vice-president and second vice-president had to be decided by secret ballot.
The first vice-president Enias Nhoro retained his position when he beat David Charlie. Christine Ncube emphatically beat Siphathisiwe Machaya by 22 votes to zero to retain the second vice-presidency.
For continuity the gathering also nominated incumbents, secretary-general Cynthia Phiri and treasurer Salatiel Zangure for other four year terms.
The gathering started with a pre-AGM meeting which among other things came up with the 2017 athletics calendar.
