The proposed co-option of business tycoon Cde Kudakwashe Tagwirei into the Zanu-PF Central Committee is set to strengthen the party’s business interests, ensuring a closer alignment with the economic sector, the revolutionary party has stated.
On Monday, the Zanu-PF Harare provincial executive recommended the co-option of businessman Cde Tagwirei into the ruling party’s Central Committee.
At a press conference yesterday, Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa, emphasised that his inclusion would help the party and Government stay attuned to business needs, given the sector’s broad impact on society.

“Since the business community is involved in the sale of goods and services, their impact on the community is much greater nowadays. To have Cde Tagwirei in the ranks of Zanu-PF in Harare province is a noble thing. More so, at the stage where the reforms of the President have taken root, we are beginning to see major investors coming from outside,” he stated.
Cde Mutsvangwa compared Cde Tagwirei’s potential influence on Zanu-PF and the nation to that of billionaire Elon Musk, who serves as an advisor to former U.S. President, Donald Trump.

“For him to become part of the Zanu-PF leadership, his vast business experience and entrepreneurial acumen will also enrich the proceedings in Harare province.
“If I can make a comparison, we can see how Elon Musk, a senior advisor to President Trump, and other business figures have enriched President Trump’s second term. Just last week, the American leadership and the Chinese leadership were having a meeting with his business class. All the new entrepreneurs, deep-seeking entrepreneurs in artificial intelligence and a host of other Chinese businesspeople in robotics, drones and across the board. So, the business class is a good thing for it to be associated with the ruling party,” he said.

The interface with business leaders such as Cde Tagwirei will be crucial in achieving Vision 2030, Cde Mutsvangwa said.
“It is a timely move for Cde Tagwirei to come to the party, and we hope his example will be followed by more and more businesspeople. We, of course, take pride in being a mass party with a broad membership because we are democratic, but we also want to be enriched by the ideas of those who are responsible for producing goods and services within the country, the region, and the global marketplace,” Cde Mutsvangwa added.
He continued: “We want them to be in Zanu-PF so that they can fertilise the entrepreneurial discourse that may be taking place at any particular time. We welcome Cde Tagwirei, and well done to Harare province for embracing him.”
He urged Zanu-PF Harare province members to give Cde Tagwirei as much support as possible to help him flourish in politics.
“I also hope he learns as much as he can about the ethos of Zanu-PF as a party of the permanent Zimbabwe revolution, a party, which aspires to ensure shared progress and common prosperity,” he said.
In an interview last night, Zanu-PF Harare province chair, Cde Godwills Masimirembwa said:
“We have sent the recommendation for Cde Tagwirei’s co-option to the party Secretary-General, Cde Dr Obert Mpofu. He will guide us on what happens next.”
