FINANCE Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, has challenged chartered governance and accounting professions to take charge and enforce absolute scrutiny by ensuring that all major corporate and Public financial transactions pass the highest standard tests and ethics.

Speaking at the 2026 Annual Conference of the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in
Zimbabwe (CGIAZ) in Johannesburg on Friday, Prof Ncube said chartered governance and accountance professionals were a critical pillar in the economy, entrusted with heavy national responsibility.

“To every governance professional and accountant in this hall, I challenge you to enforce absolute scrutiny, by ensuring that every major corporate and public financial transaction can withstand the highest standards of ethical, legal, and professional scrutiny,” he said.

“Refuse to normalize failure by rejecting recurring control deficiencies, systemic loopholes, and uncorrected audit findings as ‘business as usual’ and bridge capital to consequences through exercising your professional courage to ensure that financial allocations translate directly into visible, measurable outcomes for our citizens, communities, and investors.”

Prof Ncube reiterated that economic development is shaped not only in cabinet chambers or executive boardrooms but in the daily decisions of individual professionals and citizens.

“It’s built when a conflict of interest is courageously disclosed, when a financial report tells the unvarnished truth, and when a systemic risk is escalated before it becomes a crisis.

“You are the custodians of institutional trust. When governance improves, institutions perform. When accountability rises, public resources move further,” said Prof Ncube.

“When transparency takes root, investor confidence accelerates. Let’s, therefore, join hands as Government, the private sector, and the professions, consolidate the prevailing economic stability and together build a prosperous, inclusive, and modern Zimbabwe.
