FORMER Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari believes that his South African Absa Premier Soccer League side, Bidvest Wits, has a good chance of being league champions if they keep the momentum up. Mwaruwari, who is one of the most experienced strikers in the PSL, believes his presence in the team will help Wits win some trophies this season as they are in a good position in the league and Nedbank Cup.
The former Warriors captain told Chronicle Sport: “We have been unlucky this year for the two games we have lost but all the players have put that aside and brought back their confidence as we are on a winning streak.
“Wits have a lot of skilful and experienced players who will definitely make the team conquer this season especially under the tutelage of one of the most successful coaches in the league, Gavin Hunt.”
Mwaruwari said now that Wits are in the Nedbank Cup and are in a good position for the league, his teammates must not to put themselves under pressure.
He urged them to take each game as it comes.
The former Warriors hitman is one of the most successful Zimbabwean footballers to have plied their trade in Europe.
Like Bruce Grobbelaar and Peter Ndlovu, two former Highlanders stars, Mwaruwari played in arguably the world’s best league – the English elite division.
Mwaruwari has other Zimbabweans at Wits – Tinashe Nengomasha, Thomas Sweswe, Onismor Bhasera and Denver Mukamba.
