ZANU-PF Youth League has challenged young women across the country to participate in on-going economic development and empowerment initiatives in line with Government’s Vision 2030.
Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Lewis Matutu said young women must benefit from initiatives which are meant to ensure broad-based participation in the development of the economy.
Women participation in economic development remains low despite efforts by Government to enhance their involvement in the transformation, he said.
Cde Matutu was speaking during a Young Women Dialogue in Bulawayo last week.
“There are Government-led economic development initiatives outlined in the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP) aimed at leading an aggressive realignment of the country’s economy through introducing far-reaching reforms and re-engagement with the international community,” he said.
“As an organisation, we want to ensure young women benefit from each and every economic activity implemented in the country. Right now there are opportunities availed through banks such as the Empower Bank and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and we expect that the youth can benefit from that for their businesses, agriculture, or whatever projects they want, both in the rural and urban areas.”
He said young women must participate in developmental programmes in line with the President’s Vision 2030 saying working hard is the only way that we can solve our economic problems.
Cde Matutu said young women should take a leading role in economic transformation initiatives.
“Everyone is aware of the current situation in our country but it’s not for the Government only to address, it is our collective responsibility. We must subscribe and affirm to the principle that we are all equal but only differ in our responsibilities and duties as we work towards the transformation of our country into a great economy,” said Cde Matutu.
He urged the young women to take advantage of the opportunities availed by the youth desks in every ministry in the country for maximum participation and empowerment.
“That way we follow up on youth inclusion and empowerment. The youth desks therefore ensure that we keep our feet in every ministry making sure that every youth is empowered. We therefore encourage the young women to take advantage of such provisions. Government is willing to work with young people across the political divide. This is not the time to be politicking because the future belongs to them. It is up to young people to push for the success of the vision 2030 as they are the beneficiaries of that legacy,” said Cde Matutu.
He said the Youth League wants young women to have influence in implementation of the TSP to ensure that all decisions made by the Government are relevant and benefit them.
