Taking DZ 1 High to greater heights

Knowing one’s talents is the road to self discovery and a school is responsible for helping an individual identify and develop those gifts.

Recently, my school hosted a talent show with activities running under the theme “Taking Dzivarasekwa 1 High Talent to Greater Heights”.

Mr Nyasha as the patron was spearheading the occasion. The day started very early in the morning with students arriving as early as 7:30am .

The jovial mood encouraged one to join in the excitement. Teachers were not to be left out as most turned up dressed to kill.

The headmaster set the tone by announcing that the day was not for competition but to have fun and joy with Yeukai opening the poetry section.

The traditional dance troupe took to the stage showcasing their cherished dances such as Jerusarema. The performance staged by drama students left everyone laughing their lungs out. Then came the dance competitions. Various dancing acts were staged such as rhumba, the popular urban moves nowadays such as Clarks and break dance as well. If one of Zimbabwe’s celebrity icons such as Soul Jah Love or Killer T were present they would have recognised that they had competition. It seemed as if the day was going to last forever but time was speeding by.

Soon it was already the time for modelling. As the emcee announced the contestants there were screams and cries of appreciation from the floor. The 20 contestants from all the forms at school were smartly dressed and well prepared.

All the 20 girls seemed as appropriate candidates for the crown but there had to be one winner who came out to be Haa dia me Thelma of 4 East 2. The first princess was Lodlinience of 3 East 6, second princess was Mercy and third princess was Ivy.

Unfortunately the occasion had to come to an end it was time to honour outstanding students with gifts and time to go home.

The day ended at dusk with students exhausted with no regret as they had experienced one of the most exciting days of their lives.
